Remember when we had GameBoy Pockets, Polly Pocket and Gushers? I ingested 2 of those 3 things when I was younger. There’s been a whole economy created to serve our millennial generation and I’m all for it! My game console evolved to become a Switch and my snack of choice is a tub of non-gmo gummy worms, so I can definitely say I have helped keep that economy going strong. When a company releases a product that tugs at my nostalgic heartstrings and is made of high quality leather, they’ve got me hooked!
Loewe is one of the oldest Spanish fashion houses. None of that fast-fashion here! I’m a sucker for anything that’s made of leather. I once bought an ugly paperweight just because it was made of really nice leather. I appreciate how the material can become your own over years of use by developing a patina that makes each item unique.
Loewe calls this their Brown Small Slap Bracelet in Napa Calfskin. Usually Nappa leather is made from lamb or sheepskin so I was thrown off by the word calfskin. The bracelet is really soft and extremely aggressive when you try to put it on. So much so, that it makes you ask what or who Loewe was so upset about to make it slap so hard.
The level of craftsmanship here is spectacular, from the crisp white stitching to the thick cotton bag the bracelet arrives in. This is definitely deserving of the prestige price it charges, $165. Now, am I stupid for spending that money on a leather slap bracelet that probably cost less than $25 to produce? Of course. But I got this bracelet out of curiosity and nostalgia since the last time I saw one of these was in the 5th grade, albeit, less luxurious!
Loewe makes some pretty cool and contemporary pieces. I don’t think this was falls in either of those categories.
